GLP-1 Storage Requirements and Temperature Tolerance
- The guidelines are determined by the providing pharmacy and the state they are shipped to. Some pharmacies have clearance from their Board of Pharmacy to ship without ice. It’s based on the approving body even if the active ingredients are the same and even from the same FDA approved manufacturer.
- The GLP-1s are generally refrigerated for 2 reasons.
- The studies done by the FDA approved manufacturers and the label approved by the FDA require refrigeration.
- The preservation of sterility, colonies grow slower when refrigerated.
- We’ve been told the medication is still safe and effective even if it reaches 90 degrees, 120 degrees, 140 degrees, or up to 220 degrees for 75 hours. This all depends on the issuing pharmacy.
- Ice packs may melt in transit. If the meds arrive warm, refrigerate it before use.
- Our recommendation is to keep it refrigerated but it’s still safe and effective if it’s been left out at ambient temp.
- Please note: Build My Health is not responsible for ensuring providers maintain current knowledge of state regulations regarding GLP-1 Receptor Agonist storage/shipping requirements. This responsibility remains solely with the healthcare providers.
