Controlled Substance Rx Submission Tutorial

Overview

This tutorial guides prescribing providers through the process of submitting a controlled substance prescription using the DrWell Provider Portal. It includes key requirements, image upload steps, and security notes related to controlled substances.

Prerequisites

  • You must have a valid prescribing provider account on the DrWell Provider Portal.

  • The prescription must be for a controlled substance.

  • You must have a wet-signed prescription (handwritten or ink-signed).

  • Access to a mobile phone with a camera and internet connection.

Steps to Submit a Controlled Substance Prescription

1. Sign in to the Provider Portal

  • Go to the DrWell Provider Portal.

  • Sign in using your prescribing provider credentials.

2. Open the Pending Orders Page

  • Navigate to the Pending Orders page.

  • Locate the relevant prescription order.

  • Click the Actions menu (...) and select Submit Order.

3. Review and Edit Prescription Details

  • Review the prescription order information.

  • Under Medication Details, click Edit.

  • Select a Prescribing Reason from the dropdown.

  • Click Save Changes.

Note: If the medication is a controlled substance, additional verification steps will be required.

4. Add a Wet Signature Using QR Code

  • On the prescription submission screen, use your mobile phone to scan the QR code.

  • This opens the secure upload tool for your wet signature image.

Security Note: The Prescription ID is refreshed every time the Submit Order window is opened or closed for that order. Ensure you upload the correct signature associated with the current Prescription ID.

5. Capture and Upload Wet Signature

  • On your phone:

    • Tap Select Image.

    • Take a photo of the wet-signed prescription.

    • Confirm the image includes:

      • Patient Name

      • Medication Name

      • Diagnosis Code

      • Handwritten Signature

    • Tap Use Photo.

  • Tap Upload Image to complete the upload.

Important Guidelines:

  • No refills are allowed on the written Rx. The system handles refills electronically during renewals.

  • A new written Rx is required each month. You cannot reuse an older Rx, even if unchanged.

6. Retrieve the Prescription Image

  • Return to the DrWell Provider Portal.

  • Click Retrieve Prescription Image to confirm upload.

7. Finalize and Submit the Order

  • Ensure the following:

    • The order type is set to Ship To Patient (mandatory for controlled substances).

    • The patient’s shipping address is entered and verified.

  • Click Submit Order to complete the submission.
